This group is something else altogether! Led by the irrepressible Derek Reith of Pink Martini fame, Free Beat Nation is a Brazilian ( Maracatu, Northern-style) drum line with a horn section.
Rootsy grooves and funky covers blend in the big Brazilian beat!
Hire them for your parade or event!

Shoehorn joined the Fools In Paradise Marimba Band in 2008. Mostly active at Young Audiences school programs and private parties, the Fools play an engaging blend of traditional African music and contemporary originals on marimbas and mbiras, hand drums,and vocal harmonies with Shoehorn on sax, fife, percussion and backing vocals. They are working on a new CD.

Shoehorn has long been involved in the accompaniment of Circus/Variety acts dating back to his winters in Key West. He improvises and lends musical structure and varied instrumentation based on the mood and tempo of each piece, finding unusual, kinetic sources of inspiration.
In Madcap Variety Company, his collaborators are longtime friends Rhys Thomas and Leapin' Louie Lichtenstein, two of the Northwest's better-known comic variety artists.
He has toured with them in various groupings through Oregon, New Mexico, Nevada, Washington and Idaho.
